Put your drop luck into perspective
OSRS Dry Calculator
Check how unusual your dry streak is with the OSRS Dry Calculator. Enter a drop rate and your attempts to see the chance of zero drops, expected drops and the attempts needed for a 50%, 90% or 95% chance of at least one.

How to use the OSRS Dry Calculator
Start with the drop rate that applies to your item and setup. This OSRS drop chance calculator works with a fixed probability on independent rolls.
- Choose a drop rate format. For a 1 in 512 drop, select “1 in N” and enter 512. For a 2% drop chance, select “Percentage” and enter 2.
- Enter your attempts. Use the number of kills, completions or other attempts being modelled. Only count attempts that were eligible for the selected drop.
- Set independent rolls per attempt. Leave this at 1 unless each attempt gives multiple independent rolls at the entered rate. If your rate already describes the chance per kill or completion, do not multiply it again.
- Add drops received and calculate. Enter 0 for a dry streak, or your actual count to see the probability of receiving that many drops or fewer. Review the results, change the inputs and recalculate as needed.
Copy results saves a short text summary to your clipboard. Reset restores the default inputs. No account login or player lookup is required.
What your drop chance results mean
The results describe a group of identical, independent attempts. They show how common an outcome is under your entered rate, rather than predicting your next drop.
- Chance of zero drops
- The probability of receiving no drops across all entered rolls. A smaller percentage means an entirely dry run of that length is less common.
- Chance of at least one
- The probability of receiving one or more drops. This is the complement of zero drops, so the two percentages add to 100% before rounding.
- Expected drops
- The average number of drops across many repetitions of the same grind. A decimal result is normal; it is not a guaranteed count for your account.
- This many drops or fewer
- The probability of receiving at most your entered drop count. With 0 received, this equals the chance of zero drops; with 1 received, it includes both zero and one.
The 50%, 90% and 95% results are total attempts from the start needed to reach each chance of at least one drop. They are not additional attempts owed after your current dry streak.
Example: 1,000 attempts at a 1 in 512 drop
Suppose a hypothetical item has a fixed 1 in 512 chance on each roll. Enter 1,000 attempts, 1 independent roll per attempt and 0 drops received.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Chance of zero drops | 14.156% |
| Chance of at least one drop | 85.844% |
| Expected drops | 1.953125 |
| Attempts for a 50% chance | 355 |
| Attempts for a 90% chance | 1,178 |
| Attempts for a 95% chance | 1,533 |
About 14.16% of runs of 1,000 attempts would still have no drops under these assumptions. Although the expected count is about 1.95, receiving zero is still possible. The example uses a generic rate, not a claim about a particular boss or item.
After 1,000 unsuccessful attempts, the next independent roll still has a 1 in 512 chance. Passing the rate does not make the next roll more likely to succeed. If you want to model another 500 attempts from now, enter 500 to calculate that future batch.
How the OSRS dry calc works
Let p be the drop probability on one roll and n be the total number of independent rolls. For a 1 in N rate, p = 1 ÷ N. For a percentage rate, divide the entered percentage by 100.
Total rolls = attempts × independent rolls per attempt.
Chance of zero drops = (1 − p)n.
Chance of at least one = 1 − (1 − p)n.
Expected drops = n × p.
The “this many drops or fewer” result adds the binomial probabilities from zero up to your entered count. The threshold results find the smallest whole number of attempts that reaches the selected chance. Rounding up avoids reporting a total that falls just short of the threshold.
Choosing the right rate and roll count
Check the relevant item or encounter page on the OSRS Wiki before entering a rate. Make sure it describes your specific reward, eligibility and setup. This tool takes the rate you provide; it does not select a boss preset or verify an encounter’s current mechanics for you.
Multiple rolls must be independent and use the same chance. For example, two independent 1 in 512 rolls per attempt give two chances, not a single guaranteed reward every 256 attempts. Keep rolls at 1 when the published rate already combines the chances within one completion.
When this calculator does not fit
Use an encounter-specific model when the rate changes with points, contribution, difficulty or progress, or when rewards involve dependent rolls, guaranteed drops, protection systems or changing eligibility. Do not treat a team-wide reward chance as your personal chance without accounting for reward allocation.
At a 0% rate, a drop is impossible and the chance thresholds cannot be reached. At a 100% rate, the first eligible roll succeeds. With zero attempts, expected drops are zero and the chance of zero drops is 100%. Drops received cannot exceed the number of rolls. Our accuracy and methodology approach explains how we present assumptions and limits.
Dry calculator FAQs
How dry am I in OSRS?
Enter the applicable drop rate, eligible attempts and drops received. For a completely dry streak, use 0 received and read the chance of zero drops. For a run where you received some drops, use the “this many drops or fewer” result.
Does going over the drop rate guarantee the item?
No. A 1 in 512 rate is a probability on each eligible roll, not a promise of one item every 512 attempts. With a fixed independent rate, your previous failures do not improve the chance of your next roll.
Why is the 50% chance below the drop-rate denominator?
The denominator is the average waiting time to a first success, while the 50% threshold is the point where at least half of runs have received one. These measure different things. At 1 in 512 with one roll per attempt, 355 attempts reach a 50% chance.
Can I use it as an OSRS pet drop calculator?
Yes, if you enter the correct fixed chance for each independent pet roll. If the chance changes with your skill level, action, encounter conditions or a protection mechanic, one fixed rate will not describe the entire grind accurately.
Are the 90% and 95% thresholds guaranteed finish points?
No. A 95% chance still leaves a 5% chance of zero drops. The thresholds describe total attempts from the start. They do not guarantee success or count down the attempts remaining for an account that is already dry.
