Plan your next combat milestone
OSRS Combat Calculator
Calculate your combat level from your seven base combat stats. The OSRS Combat Calculator shows your unrounded result, dominant combat style and the single-stat increases needed to reach your next combat level.

How to use the OSRS Combat Calculator
Use the permanent levels on your account. Leave out temporary potion boosts, drained stats and equipment bonuses.
- Enter your seven combat stats. Add Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Prayer, Ranged and Magic. The tool accepts whole base levels from 1–99, with Hitpoints starting at 10.
- Select Calculate. Read your whole combat level first, then check the unrounded value and dominant style beneath it.
- Compare next-level options. Each row shows how many levels you would need in one stat, while every other stat stays unchanged. These are alternative routes, so do not add the rows together.
- Try a training plan. Change the stats you expect to gain and calculate again. Use Copy results to keep the breakdown, or Reset to return to the starting values.
No account login is needed. Enter the stats manually; this version does not fetch player hiscores.
What your combat level results mean
This OSRS combat level calculator separates the displayed level from the values behind it, so you can see why a training choice changes your result.
- Combat level
- The whole-number result after rounding the final calculation down. Two accounts can share this level even when their underlying stats differ.
- Unrounded combat level
- The value before the final round down. A result of 90.25 displays as combat level 90; reaching at least 91 is needed for the next whole level.
- Dominant style
- The highest formula contribution from Melee, Ranged or Magic. Tied styles can appear together. This label does not choose your weapon or measure your damage.
- Next-level options
- Single-stat increases needed to reach the next whole combat level. “Not possible with this stat alone” means that stat cannot do it within the level 99 limit.
Example: planning from combat level 90 to 91
Enter 70 Attack, 80 Strength, 70 Defence, 75 Hitpoints, 43 Prayer, 70 Ranged and 70 Magic. This is a melee-based example: Attack and Strength produce the highest offensive contribution.
| Part of the calculation | Result |
|---|---|
| Shared base | 41.5 |
| Melee contribution | 48.75 |
| Ranged contribution | 34.125 |
| Magic contribution | 34.125 |
| Unrounded combat level | 90.25 |
| Displayed combat level | 90 |
With the other stats held fixed, 3 Attack levels raise Attack to 73 and the unrounded result to 91.225. Alternatively, 3 Defence levels raise Defence to 73 and give a result of exactly 91. The calculator also checks Strength, Hitpoints, Prayer, Ranged and Magic as separate possibilities.
These options compare level increases, not training time. Gaining three levels in one skill can require a different amount of XP from gaining three in another. Use the OSRS XP Calculator to turn a chosen stat goal into an experience gap and an estimated training time.
How is combat level calculated in OSRS?
The calculation has a shared base and three possible offensive contributions. Add the base to the largest offensive contribution, then round the final total down. The formula follows the rounding order documented on the OSRS Wiki combat level page.
| Component | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Base | 0.25 × (Defence + Hitpoints + floor(Prayer ÷ 2)) |
| Melee | 0.325 × (Attack + Strength) |
| Ranged | 0.325 × (Ranged + floor(Ranged ÷ 2)) |
| Magic | 0.325 × (Magic + floor(Magic ÷ 2)) |
| Final level | floor(Base + highest offensive contribution) |
Floor means round down. Keep the intermediate rounding shown in the formula. Prayer is halved and rounded down before it enters the base; Ranged and Magic also have an internal round down. Rounding the final result to the nearest whole number gives the wrong displayed level.
Why some stat gains leave combat level unchanged
Defence and Hitpoints feed into the shared base. Prayer changes that base when the rounded half-Prayer value increases. Attack and Strength affect the melee contribution, while Ranged and Magic affect their own contributions. Only the highest offensive contribution is used.
A non-dominant offensive skill can therefore gain levels without changing the final result. Even when a contribution increases, the displayed combat level stays the same until the unrounded total crosses the next whole number. Recalculate after each planned group of gains, especially if more than one stat will change.
Assumptions for account planning
The OSRS combat calc uses base stats only. Gear, active prayers and temporary boosts can change combat performance but are not inputs to this account-level formula. Skills outside the seven listed do not contribute to combat level.
The next-level table tests one stat at a time up to 99. It does not search for every combination of smaller gains across several skills, predict Hitpoints XP earned while training, or select the fastest training method. It also does not determine Wilderness attack eligibility, which depends on the location and applicable rules. Our accuracy and methodology approach explains how we present calculations and their limits.
Combat calculator FAQs
What is the maximum combat level in OSRS?
The maximum displayed combat level is 126. With all seven combat stats at 99, the unrounded formula gives 126.1, which rounds down to 126. The tool can also check whether your own mix of stats reaches that level.
Does Prayer increase combat level?
Yes. Prayer contributes through floor(Prayer ÷ 2) in the shared base. A Prayer level gain does not always change that rounded value, and a base increase may still leave the displayed whole combat level unchanged.
Can I train Ranged or Magic without gaining a combat level?
Sometimes. If the skill’s offensive contribution stays below the current highest contribution, raising it does not change that part of the result. Check the full planned stats too: Hitpoints or other levels gained during training can still raise combat level.
Do potions, equipment or active prayers affect this result?
No. Enter unboosted base levels. Equipment bonuses, temporary boosts and active combat prayers affect fighting performance rather than this combat level calculation. A combat level by itself does not tell you your max hit or damage per second.
What does “Not possible with this stat alone” mean?
That stat alone cannot raise your current whole combat level before reaching the level 99 cap, with all other stats unchanged. You may need to raise another stat or combine several gains. At maximum combat level there is no higher whole level to reach.
